DISCUSSION: Background: On March 13, 2007, staff held the first Printery Working Group meeting. ^ The meeting was attended by staff, Lon Allen, Rick Matthews, Kelly Gearhart, Jamie Kirk, Aaron Hyland (ARG), Jody Stock (ARG) and Mr. Gearhart's historian from Jones and Stokes. The process began with a kick-off and introduction meeting at City Hall. During this time, everyone was introduced and explained their role and expectation for the restoration process. Next, the group departed to the Printery building for a tour of the building and grounds. During the tour, broken windows and vandalism to the interior of the building was evident. The meeting concluded with a discussion of the process and next steps. The primary issues discussed by the group included: • Status of architectural plans. • The plan check and CEQA process. • The need to comply with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. • Importance of defining the building's setting (relationships between the building, street and landscape areas). • The process of defining the building's period of significance. • The importance of restoring rather than replacing windows. ^ • The need to determine what type of roof was originally installed on the building. • The need to secure the building and prevent additional vandalism. 5 ITEM NUMBER: RA B-1 DATE: 06/26/07 No additional meetings of the group have been held since March. Staff is currently waiting on Mr. Gearhart to resubmit his plans for the City's historic consultant to review. The group will be reconvened once the City's review process begins. Process Summary Corrections for the restoration plans for the Printery have been in Mr. Gearhart's possession since June 2006. Staff has requested that the plans be resubmitted so the City's historic consultant ARG can begin their work. Mr. Gearhart told staff earlier this month that the plans should be resubmitted in June. Building Maintenance and Current Condition • Broken Windows Staff has been monitoring the situation with the broken windows on the exterior of the Printery. Mr. Gearhart has boarded up the windows with broken glass and is currently in compliance. One window on the rear of the building was removed on June 18, 2007 by a window restoration specialist. This window will be taken to a shop to determine the best process to restore all of the building's windows.
