SUBJECT: Approval to Award the Atascadero Lake Park Phase I
Project
RECOMMENDATION:
1 . Adopt resolution 113-90 authorizing the following:
The execution of an agreement with John Madonna
Construction of San Luis Obispo for the
construction of Atascadero Lake Park Phase I .
BACKGROUND:
On September lLi, 1990 the bids for the Atascadero Lake Park Phase
I project were opened with the following results .
John Madonna Construction . . . . . . . . . S 121 , 900 .00
• Whitaker Contractors, Inc . S 131 , 166 .00
Michael Frederick; Paving Company $ 159, 520 .00
Shetler Construction Company S 196, 398 .00
Architect 's Estimate . . . . . . . . . . S 152, 390 .00
The work in Phase I includes clearing and , grubbing, the
demolition of the existingpavilion building, thedemolition of
the cabin adjacent the Pismo Street entrance, constructing a
retaining wall along the lake edge and constructing a soil
Foundation for the new pavilion building . The purpose of bidding
Phase I separately is to take advantage of the low water surface
elevation in the lake . Constructing the retaining wall while the
water surface is low will minimize the cost of dewatering the
site .
DISCUSSION:
The firstand second low bidders are within a reasonable range
For this project. Both of these bids are below the Architect 's
estimate . Both of these firms are qualified and capable of
completing the work according to the Plans and Specifications .

The construction management for Phase I will be provided by the
City Staff although there will be substantial involvement of a
geotechnical engineer during the preparation of the soil
foundation

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ATASCADERO, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT WITH
John Madonna Construction
TO
CONSTRUCT THE ATASCADERO LAKE
PARK PHASE I PROJECT
The City Council of the City of Atascadero, California,
hereby resolves as follows:
1 . The Mayor, or in the Mayor 's absence, the City Manager,
is hereby authorized to execute an agreement with:
John Madonna Construction, P .O . Box 5310, San Luis
Obispo, CA 93't03 to construct the Atascadero Lake Park
Phase I project, and all other agreements or documents
required to effectuate the terms of agreement.
2 . The City Manager is hereby authorized to make minor
• corrections or modifications of a mathematical or
clerical nature .
3 . The Finance Director is hereby authorized to:
appropriate funds, if necessary ; release and expend
funds; and issue warrants to comply with the terms of
this agreement .
PASSED AND ADOPTED at a special meeting of the City Council
CE the City of Atascadero held on the 17th day of September,
1Q90 .
