HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 41-84 RESOLUTION NO. 41-84 RESOLUTION OF THE ATASCADERO CITY COUNCIL DIRECTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PROGRAMS AND POLICY STATEMENTS WHICH WILL RESULT IN THE ENCOURAGEMENT OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES AND ENHANCED COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE CITY OF ATASCADERO WHEREAS, on July 23, 1984 , the City Council directed Staff to dev- elop a statement of intent to encourage affordable housing opportunities and the establishment of additional commercial development within the City of Atascadero; and, WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes a vital and important need to assist its citizens in the attainment of adequate, safe and sanitary housing either as a ' for sale' or ' for rent' unit; and, WHEREAS, the City Council also recognizes the needs of the commu- nity for a variety of services that only local government can provide with the cost hereof creating the need to establish a sound, reliable and diversified source of revenue wherein commercial development, especially retail sales opportunities, can provide a significant source of income. NOW, THEREFORE, in recognition of the value and importance of these needs for the City of Atascadero, the City Council hereby directs staff to perform a comprehensive review of all documents relating to the issues of affordable housing and commercial development and provide a report to Council concerning amendments, revisions, additions or changes that may be appropriate to attain these goals.. Documents including, but not limited to, the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Capital Improvement Plan and other policy statements concerning the planning function and which relate to the phy ical development of the community shall be of primary importance this effort. Any and all changes, revisions, amendments or policy statements that may result from this review shall fully recognize the value of the principles to be established with rec- ognition and understanding of the actual needs of the community and emphasis given to the creation of an economically and socially balanced environment consistent with the physical limitations of the City and surrounding area. On motion by Councilman Molina and seconded by Councilman Handshy , the foregoing resolution is hereby adopted in its entirety by the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilman Molina, Handshy, Councilwoman Norris, Mayor Nelson.
