HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 37-81 RESOLUTION NO. 37-81 A RESOLUTION OF THE ATASCADERO CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTING THE PRESENT APPLICATION REQUESTING THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO DESIGNATE THE ATASCADERO ADMINISTRATION AND VETERAN'S MEMORIAL BUILDING AS A CALIFORNIA STATE HISTORICAL LANDMARK WHEREAS, the Atascadero Administration and Veteran' s Memorial Building, originally known as the Administration Building of the Atascadero Colony, has been, and remains after sixty-two years, one of the most imposing structures in San Luis Obispo County; and WHEREAS, this building, in November of 1977 , was added to the National Register of Historic Places; and WHEREAS, this building is the symbol of the Atascadero Colony in matters of nationwide scope; and WHEREAS, this building represented innovative concepts in community planning and living that even today are considered pro- gressive; and WHEREAS, this building has been the subject of numerous fea- ture articles in major urban newspapers during recent years; and WHEREAS, this building represents the seat of municipal gov- ernment for the City of Atascadero, which has taken particular pride in its care and preservation; and WHEREAS, the City of Atascadero is the owner of the Atasca- dero Administration and Veteran' s Memorial Building and its sur- rounding grounds. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Atascadero City Coun- cil does hereby support the present application requesting the State of California to designate the Atascadero Administration and Veteran' s Memorial Building as a California State Historial Landmark; and ' BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Atascadero does here- by authorize the California Department of Parks and Recreation to number , register and erect a historical landmark on said proper- ty; and ' BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be for- warded to the California Historical Landmarks Advisory Committee in Sacramento. On motion by Councilman Mackey and seconded by Councilman Stover , the foregoing resolution is hereby adopted in its ' entirety on the following roll call vote: Resolution No. 37-81 - Historical Landmark AYES; Councilmen Mackey, Nelson, Stover and Mayro Wilkins NOES: None ABSENT: Councilman Highland ADOPTED: December 14, 1981 .- ROBERT J.
