COMMISSION
MINUTES
Thursday, April 20, 2006
7:00 P.M.
REGULAR SESSION: 7:00 P.M.
Chairperson Mathews called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.rn. and Commissioner Jack led the
Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Jack, Castaneda, Livick, Butz (arrived 7:30), Sechrist,
Chairperson Mathews
Student Representative Buck -Moyer
Absent: Commissioner Ausman & Student Representative Solkshinitz
Staff Present: Community Services Director Brady Cherry and Recording Secretary Ellen
Perkins, Fire Department
COMMUNITY FORUM:
Eric Greening spoke about the Environmental review of the Atascadero Creek Trail and negative
declaration.
D.J. Funk, Environmental Resource District in Templeton, said the next meeting will be a hearing
regarding the De Anza Trail. National Park Service will help with signage. Selinen Tribal Council
contacted. He spoke to the Environmental process.
Ted Momenyay told the commissioners and the public that he lives on the west side by the Atascadero
Creek and it is as beautiful as anything he has ever seen. He hoped it would be open to the public so they
could enjoy it too.
Jonalee Bestenes asked to put on the agenda an item to discuss the uppermost reach of the Atascadero
Creek; specifically the section from San Gabriel Road west to the 3 bridges area. She said she has spoken
to Director Cherry and submitted her report and photos into record. Director Cherry said he would put this
on the May Agenda.
Chairperson Mathews closed the Community Forum period.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
MOTION: By Commissioner Livick and seconded by Commissioner Jack to approve
the agenda.
Motion passed 5:0 by a roll -call vote.
COMMISSION/YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS:
Spring Break, not much to report from the Student Representative
A. CONSENT CALENDAR:
1. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes — March 16, 2006
■ Staff Recommendation: Commission approve the Parks and Recreation Commission
minutes of the March 16, 2006 meeting. [Community Services]
MOTION: By Commissioner Jack and seconded by Commissioner Livick to approve
Item #A-1.
B. PRESENTATIONS:
Slide Show Presentation by Joe Ramirez, a local professional photographer, on the
Ultra Marathon that took place in March 2006 in Copper Canyon, Mexico.
C. COMMITTEE & LIAISON REPORTS:
1. Atascadero Youth Task Force — next meeting May 2, 2006, 7:00 a.m. at the Pavilion
Lakeside Room
2. Traffic Way Naming Contest — Commissioners Jack/Ausman. Atascadero News doing a
story. City Council approval needed.
3. City/Schools Facilities Meeting — Commissioner Jack. This was a "get acquainted"
meeting and the San Benito fields was a topic.
D. STAFF COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
1. Special Joint Council -Commissions Meeting Council Correspondence. Director Cherry
said the San Benito fields must go before the City Council with maintenance issues. This
is going on the City Council Agenda for April 25, 2006. Director Cherry encouraged full
attendance at the meeting.
2. Children's Day in the Park, May 20, 2006
3. New Zoo Exhibit, "Metamorphosis" — Now open
4. George C. Beatie Skate Park Update — Averaging 35-75 kids a day; 5th, 7th & 8t' graders
attending. Working on partnering with Mobley's to operate the Skate Park. BMX hours
on Sunday noon to 3 p.m. Approximately 30 riders.
5. City Magazine/Guide — out in May
6. Recreation Center "Buy -A -Brick" Campaign — Fundraiser
7. Next Stadium Park Planning Meeting/Brainstorming session May 11, 2006. Planning an
Open House for June 15, 2006. Will have music. There are approximately 35 people on
the committee.
Pavilion Maintenance/Recruitment — Pavilion maintenance going to City Council April
25, 2006, to ask for money for new chairs and a new dishwasher and to replace the floor
in the kitchen.

■ Chairperson Mathews announced the Pine Mt. Fundraiser to be held at the Pavilion on
April 22, 2006. Inventory of all native tree resources within 30 sq mile area now in
process.

Director Cherry said the BMX project moving along
