HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 04-81 RESOLUTION NO. 4-81 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ATASCADERO "SUPPORTING `THE CONTINUATION OF THE LOCAL COASTAL COMMISSION AND THE TERMINATION OF THE STATE COASTAL COMMISSION AFTER JUNE, 1981 WHEREAS, the South Central Coast Commission, as presently constituted, deals with the mandates of the Coastal Preservation Act for San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties; and WHEREAS, being a local commission, the needs, resource capacities and constraints of the area are well known and the needs of the public of the State of California to Access, Housing, etc. , under the Coastal Act are readily addressed; and WHEREAS, State Commission members may reside 1100 miles apart; and WHEREAS, the State Commission may perceive needs for coastal cities which are not the real needs considering the diversity of city types in thecoastalzone; and WHEREAS, local and visitor needs are well known to ' local people; and WHEREAS, since service on the State Commission requires a excessive amount of one's time, opportunities for service on this Commission is restricted to those who have the time to serve, not necessarily to those who should or are the ' best qualified to serve; and WHEREAS , continuation of the State Coastal Commission requires the expenditure of a great deal of travel time in order to attend remote State Commission hearings; and WHEREAS, this remoteness effectively precludes attendance ' by many interested parties at State Commission hearings. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Atascadero supports the termination of the State Commission and the continuance of the Regional Commissions. IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk send a copy of this resolution to the cities' representatives of the California Legislature, the South Central Coast Commission, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors and the six cities in San Luis Obispo County. Resolution No. 4-81 Page Two On motion by Councilman Highland and seconded by Councilman Stover , the foregoing proposed resolution ' is hereby adopted in its entirety on the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen Highland, Mackey, Nelson, Stover and Mayor Wilkins NOES: None ABSENT: None ADOPTED: February 23, 1981 ROBERT J.
