HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 17-80 RESOLUTION NO. 17-80 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATASCADERO CALLING A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY ON NOVEMBER 4 , 1980 FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY PROPOSITIONS RELATING TO WHETHER THE OFFICES OF THE CITY CLERK AND CITY TREASURER SHOULD BE APPOINTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, AND CONSOLIDATING SAID ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE SAME DATE. The Council of the City of Atascadero does hereby resolve as follows: Section 1. A special election is called in the City of Atascadero to be held on November 4 , 1980 , for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of the City propositions on whether the Offices of City Clerk and City Treasurer shall be appointed by the City Council rather than elected. Said propo- sitions are authorized by the provisions of Section 36508 and 36509 of the State Government Code. The aforesaid City propositions are to appear on the ballot as follows: A. Shall the Office of City YES Clerk be appointed? NO 1 B. Shall the Office of City YES Treasurer by appointed? NO -1- I Section 2 . The Council determines that the election called for November 4 , 1980 shall be consolidated with the state- wide general election to be held on said date, and within said City the precincts, polling places , and officers of election for 1 the special municipal election hereby called shall be the same as those provided for said statewide general election. Section 3. Pursuant to the requirements of Sections 23302 and 23306 of the State Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of San Luis Obispo County is requested to order the consolidation of the special municipal election hereby called with said statewide general election, and said Board of Supervisors is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said special municipal election, and said elections shall be held in all respects as if II there were only one election, and only one form of ballot, namely,. the ballots used at said general election, shall be used. The Board of Supervisors is requested to certify the results of the canvass of the returns of said special municipal election to the City Council of said City which shall thereafter declare the results ' thereof. Section 4 . Notice of the time and place of holding the election shall be given in the time, form, and manner as required by law. Section 5. The Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to issue such instructions as may be necessary to the County Clerk as Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of said consolidated election. -1- Y Section 6 . The City of Atascadero recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees-to reimburse the County for any such costs. Section 7. The City Clerk of the City of Atascadero is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors. Section 8. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of the resolution and shall cause this resolution and his certifi- cation to be entered in the Book of Resolutions of the Council of this City. On motion by Councilman Highland and seconded by Councilman Stover the foregoing resolution is hereby adopted in its entirety on the following roll call vote: AYES: Councilmen Highland, Mackey, Nelson, Stover and Mayor Wilkins NOES: None ABSENT: None ADOPTED: July 28, 1980 ROBERT J.
