ACTION MINUTES
Thursday, May 17, 2012
REGULAR SESSION: 7:00 PM
Chairperson Seay called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and Commissioner DeCarli
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners DeCarli, Greenaway, May, and , and
Chairperson Seay.
Absent: Student representative Luke Thek.
Others Present: Recording Secretary Vera Klein.
Staff Present: Geoff English, Deputy Director of Public andCommunity
Services Director Brady Cherry.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION: None

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
MOTION: By Commissioner DeCarli and seconded by Commissioner
Greenaway to approve the Agenda.
Motion passed 4:0 by a roll -call vote.
COMMISSION ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REPORTS
1. DeCarli spoke about last weeks SLO Rideshare May's month event, it was a
success, had about 300 people and everyone got pizza and a free movie .

1. Parks and Recreation Commission Minutes — April 19, 2012
■ Recommendation: Commission approves the Parks and Recreation
Commission Meeting minutes of the April 19, 2012 meeting.

MOTION: By Commissioner Greenaway and seconded by Commissioner
Declari to approve Consent Calendar
Motion passed 4:0 by a roll -call vote.
B. Management Reports
1. Proposed Eagle Scot Bocce Ball Court
Geoff English introduced Nick Landy an Eagle Scout from Troop 226. Nick is seeking
staff support and approval to install an information kiosk and 3 scoreboards for the new
Bocce Ball Courts at Colony Park. It will be built against the fence and he will
coordinate with Tom Jameson. Nick also said that he is working with CalPoly
Engineering to make it handicap accessible. Nick's family will be helping with the
assembly and the etching of the numbers.
MOTION: By Commissioner May and seconded by Vice Chairperson
Greenaway to recommend approval to the City Council

D. STAFF COMMENTS/ ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. Mark Your Calendar:
• Saturday, April 21st: Fire House Fun Run will be put on the Atascadero
Firefighter's Association
■ Saturday, April 21St: Knights of Columbus' 3rd annual Bocce & BBQ
event is taking place at the Atascadero Lake Park
■ Friday- Sunday, April 27 -29th: Relay for Life by the American Cancer
Society at the Sunken Gardens
■ Saturday, May 5th: Arthritis Walk put on by the Arthritis Foundation at
the Lake Park
■ Saturday, May 12th: Annual Walk for Life event put on by Tree of Life at
the Lake Park
■ Sunday, May 27th: Bicycle Century Ride hosted by the Great Western
Bicycle Rally at the Lake Park, 7am-Noon
Brady spoke about the Cookie Safari Adventure on Mothers day event, which made
$1400 and had several hundred people attend. The Children's Day there will be lots of
booths and carnival.
2. Parks Update (Geoff)
Geoff gave update on Bocce ball update, concrete forms were ready and CalPoly
Engineering were at the site. Lake Park Frontage will have grand opening and a ribbon
cutting.
3. Atascadero Fun Club Update- Brady Cherry
Brady updated the group on the May -June Atascadero Fun Club newletter that is
currently out. Brady offered the Commissioners tickets to SLO baseball games with the
Blues. He spoke about the Atascadero Magazine & Recreation Guide which will be out
tomorrow, Friday. Because City Hall is closed Friday a sign is posted outside the door
letting people know they can register on-line or from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. can register in
person at the Community Center.
