HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 2014-001 RESOLUTION NO. 2014-001 RESOLUTION OF THE CITE' COUINCIL OF THE CITY OF ATASCADERO TO REQUEST FUNDS GIFTED BY SHULTZ FAMILY TRUST TO THE ATASCADERO COMMUNITY SERVICES FOUNDATION TO BENEFIT THE CHARLES PADDOCK ZOO BE GIVEN DIRECTLY TO THE CITY OF ATASCADERO WIT14 THE SAME INTENTLON WHEREAS,the City of Atascadero incorporated. in 1979; and, WHEREAS, the City of Atascadero acquired ownership of the Charles Paddock Zoo as of 1979,when the City incorporated; and, WHEREAS,the Charles Paddock Zoo Director, Alan Baker, works to maintain, enhance and promote the Zoo as an important asset to the City; and., WHEREAS, the Charles Paddock Zoo has been granted accreditation by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) Accreditation Commission since 1991 and has been recognized as maintaining high standards in animal care, conservation, education and operations; and, WHEREAS, the Atascadero Community Services Foundation was formed in 1991 as a non-profit, public benefit corporation for the charitable purposes of assistance in maintaining, enhancing and promoting the Charles Paddock Zoo, City public parks and other recreation and cultural facilities which serve the general public; and, WHEREAS, the City is aware of the bequest of$100,000 by the Shultz Family Trust to the Atascadero Community Services Foundation, Inc.,to benefit the Charles Paddock Zoo; and, WHEREAS, the Atascadero Community Services Foundation is in the process of dissolving. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Atascadero as follows: 1. The Council hereby requests that the funds gifted by the Shultz Family Trust to the Atascadero Community Services Foundation be donated directly to the City of Atascadero with the same intention to benefit the Charles Paddock Zoo in Atascadero, California. 2. The City agrees that if the funds gifted by the Shultz Family Trust are donated to the City of Atascadero that the City spend the funds exclusively to support the Zoo.
