City Council Meeting
Item H1
Dear Honorable Council,
I'm writing to express my support for allowing licensed cannabis retail locations and land use
designations within the City of Atascadero.
Our city is in clear need of additional tax revenue to fund vital services, infrastructure, and community
programs. Neighboring jurisdictions like San Luis Obispo and Grover Beach have already taken this
step and are now benefiting from increased tax income without experiencing the negative impacts
that were once feared. These cities have shown that well-regulated cannabis businesses can operate
safely, responsibly, and in harmony with their communities.
Unfortunately, Atascadero is well known for its large swaths of incredibly underutilized properties
along the long stretches up and down El Camino Real and other areas. We need more demand for
commercial space in town and we need investment in those areas. Allowing cannabis uses can
provide a much-needed boost for local landlords, property owners, and small business entrepreneurs
by filling these spaces with viable, tax-generating tenants. This kind of smart economic development
helps revitalize our business districts and supports our city’s long-term stability. Allowing our
neighboring jurisdictions to cash in on this tax source just further hinders our cities ability to compete
regionally at a time when we are already trying to play catchup. I was discouraged to see the former
city council lack the foresight with the previous vote but, now that we have seen it play out
successfully and safely in other local jurisdictions, I hope this city council can make the right financial
decision on behalf of the people they represent.
I urge the City Council to consider the economic and practical benefits of allowing cannabis retail and
to move forward with policies that support responsible, local business growth in Atascadero. Thank
you for your time and consideration.

Good morning,
As a resident of Atascadero, I would be in favor of bringing a quality cannabis store to Atascadero.
With the proper signage and staff in place, it could be very successful and would be a great addition
to North County. The tax revenue would be a great boon to the town. I wouldn't want it to be near a
school, but we could leverage requirements similar to those of a liquor store or bar.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter,
Alysha Sarrade

Subject:Retail Cannabis Storefronts Issue
Hi,
I've been a resident of Atascadero for 6+ years now. I see our city as:
-Improving with upscale growth and redevelopment
-Maintaining a family-oriented, safe and desirable community to live in and raise kids
I feel that retail cannabis storefronts in the city would be:
-Not a positive addition to the image we have and are trying to achieve
-Not a positive influence for our youth
-Unnecessary as cannabis is easily obtained in neighboring communities
My opinion is to NOT permit retail cannabis storefronts in our town. The short-term tax base gain will be
more than offset by the long-term community image handicap these stores will result in.
Thanks for the opportunity to weigh in!
Tom Fitzhugh

I'd like to express my support for a Cannabis Land Use Zoning to allow a cannabis retail center in
Atascadero.
There is unused commercial land throughout the city and a cannabis shop could provide a good amount
of foot traffic and the increased revenues would be greatly appreciated.
I can say I am a customer of the SLO retailer Megan's, and their location shows that such a retail space
can be clean, secure, and would not lead to any increased crime or police presence.
Allowing a cannabis retailer, so long as it is kept to strict standards of identification for its customers
similar to liquor stores, is a guaranteed win for the community, and will help keep city dollars in the city.
Sincerely,
Beau Sterling Davis, Esq.

Please allow cannabis storefronts to be allowed in Atascadero. As a retired Law Enforcement Sergeant I
successfully use cannabis for wellness regarding chronic arthritis.
The Cities of Grover Beach, Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo all successfully are allowing cannabis
storefronts and collecting +$500,000 in taxes/fees annually from the Cannabis storefronts.
Thank you
