The current assessments are more than adequate to meet expenses as the balances in the funds are greater than they were last year even with the “improvements” that have been made to the landscaping and streets. I put the word improvements in parenthesis because in my opinion, the work that was done on the streets is sloppy and full of imperfections. There are big holes in the paving near the corner of Eliano and Calle Milano for example. I asked for a year for the fence is the little park on Eliano to be repaired. It was finally done, but in a sloppy way and it will rust and deteriorate if it is not primed and painted properly. I do not believe that it is necessary to increase the assessment each year unless a cogent reason for the increase can be stated. Also, I don’t understand the obsession with maintaining the streets in pristine condition. This seems to be the only concern of the City management, while other concerns are ignored. For example, we have asked for traffic control at Calle Milano and Eliano due to the inability of drivers exiting Eliano to see into the intersection above Calle Milano because of the configuration of the road and the persistence of parking on Eliano at the intersection. While there may be some restrictions on what may be done, the City simply does not take this concern seriously, refusing to do anything or even look into what may be done. In conclusion, it is my opinion that the City wants to charge us as much as possible so that a large balance is shown on the books, while ignoring the real concerns in Las Lomas.
