RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ATASCADERO, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE
TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL GRANT FUNDING FOR SWORN POLICE
STAFFING AUGMENTATION
WHEREAS, the United States Department of Justice has
established the Poiic;e Hiring Su221ement Pr2gram to assist
local law enforcement agencies in placing more police
officers on our streets; and
WHEREAS, due to City funding inadequacies, two police
officer position vacancies exist in our police department;
and
WHEREAS, police calls for service and various
categories of crime continue to significantly increase; and
WHEREAS, President Clinton has committed $150 million
to the Police Hiring Supplement Prggram to help hire and/or
rehire additional sworn law enforcement officers;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Chief of Police
is hereby authorized to apply for available funding under
the Police Hiring Supplement Program for a three year grant
with a target of filling two existing vacancies plus an
additional two sworn police officers who will pursue
targeted crime-related concerns in our community.
On motion by Councilperson BorgesQn and seconded by
Councilperson Bewley , the foregoing Resolution is hereby
adopted in its entirety on the following roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Bewley, Borgeson, Luna and Mayor Nimmo
NOES: None
ABSENT: One Seat Vacant
