CITY OF ATASCADERO RECYCLING GOALS
WHEREAS, the City of Atascadero recognizes the importance of
preserving limited and increasingly valuable landfill space, con-
serving natural resources and protecting the environment; and
WHEREAS, City participation in and promotion of recycling and
waste reduction programs sets a positive example for local resi-
dents and businesses , while significantly reducing the amount of
material entering the landfill; and
WHEREAS, AB939 requires local governments to divert 250 of
solid waste from landfills through waste reduction, recycling and
composting by 1995 and another 25% by the year 2000;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Atascadero
will hereby pursue the following activities to meet recycling goals
and promote waste reduction:
1 . Expand the current paper recycling program to include all
City departments and all recyclable paper products .
2 . Develop and implement a program to recycle glass and
aluminum and place recycle bins in all City parks,
grounds and buildings .
3 . The City grounds department will recycle organic material
to the greatest extent feasible by composting trimmings
and reusing the mulch in City parks and grounds .
4 . The City maintenance department will recycle all ap-
propriate materials, such as motor oil, used tires,
batteries, scrap metal and scrap wood.
5 . Develop and implement a program to recycle corrugated
cardboard from all City departments .
6 . Utilize bulletin boards and circulated copies to avoid
unnecessary duplication.
7 . when duplication is necessary, copy on both sides of
paper.
8 . All City departments shall work cooperatively to further
the purposes of this resolution.
9 . The provisions of this resolution are to be initiated
within 6 months of adoption of this resolution by the
City Council .

On motion by Councilmember Borgeson , seconded by Council-
member Dexter , the foregoing resolution is hereby adopted in
its entirety on the following roll-call vote:
AYES: Councilmembers Shiers, Nimmo, Borgeson, Dexter and Mayor Lilley
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
